Keeping Fit At University

Your Uni life budget might just not stretch to a gym membership at the moment. It’s not actually entirely necessary to be a gym member to stay fit and healthy.

Whether you are already a keen fitness fanatic or more of a couch dweller, we’ve got some tips to encourage health and fitness or just to keep you on the right track for little to zero cost.

Join A University Sports Team

Your University will have a whole host of sporting teams for you to get involved with for a teeny tiny fee. You don’t have to be a seasoned pro either. Go for something fun that you will enjoy to keep you going back.

Get An App

There are literally hundreds of free fitness app for you to choose from these days. You can go for a workout app only or for an all singing all dancing app with diet plans, recipe tips, and trackers.

Workout DVD’s/Videos

YouTube is choc full of fitness content creators and best of all, they are free. You can try your hand at Yoga, Kettlebells, weights or even a HIIT workout.
Alternatively, you could hire fitness DVD’s from the library and see how many celebrity fitness workouts you can make your way through to keep it interesting. You can also get your flatmates involved.

Eat Healthily

It’s all well and good exercising, but it will not help greatly if you are still eating junk food at every given opportunity. Try and cut the takeaways (think of your wallet also,) junk foods and convenience snacks and you will not only feel a difference in your mind and body but also see a huge difference.

Drink Water

We all know that we should be drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day but how many of us actually do it? Treat yourself to a nice water bottle to keep with you at all times to make it easier to get in that all important H2O. If you don’t particularly like water you can jazz it up by adding fresh fruit for a little flavour. Also, be sure to stay away from fizzy drinks, even of the diet variety.

Make Small Changes

No matter how inactive you are, tiny changes to your daily routine can still make a huge difference. Take the stairs instead of a lift, walk instead of taking the bus or if the journey is too far, get off a couple of stops early. Have a drink of water with every meal instead of juice, pop or a hot drink. Honestly, every little counts.
