Preparing for university can be a stressful time for both prospective students and their families as the list of urgent requirements can seem to be never-ending. In all the anticipation it can be easy to forget about the urgency of enrollment and student loan applications – but perhaps the most exciting, yet difficult tasks is finding the perfect student accommodation for you.
That’s why we’ve put together this guide on what you should be keeping your eye out for when looking for university accommodation…
One of the most important considerations when choosing your student accommodation is location. While close proximity and convenient transport links to your university will be at the top of your priorities, it is also a good idea to note the distance and ease of access to other places, such as supermarkets and social venues.
Having a supermarket within walking distance – or a short bus ride – will be a necessity for most students, especially as this will most likely be the first time you will be grocery shopping by yourself. However, you may also want to consider ease of access to more sociable places, like pubs, clubs, and sporting venues.
Sociable, Communal Spaces
Part of the appeal in living in student halls is the social scene. Living in a shared flat with communal spaces will allow you to easily get to know your new flatmates – however, many accommodation options also offer additional communal areas, including cinema and games rooms, study spaces, and even balconies and roof terraces!
These areas can be great for meeting fellow students and hanging out with new friends, so it is worth keeping your eye out for options with these extra perks.
Utility Bills Included
Living on your own for the first time will help to open your eyes to the importance of budgeting. Luckily, a lot of accommodation options – including all of our Mezzino student homes – include all of your utility bills in the rental cost. It is important to keep your eyes peeled for this one as you don’t want to be taken by surprise further down the line with a water and electricity bill on top of your rent!
The internet has never been more of a necessity, with most people using wi-fi every day for both social and work reasons. For students, wi-fi is especially important – particularly in the uncertain times we are living in. When looking for your ideal student accommodation, make sure that you take this into consideration to avoid crashing internet connections just before a big deadline!
Find student accommodation
Where do you want to go?
Searched for loads of student accommodation before I found this gem amongst the rest. Really nice sizeable apartments in a great student busy location. Would highly recommend Mezzino.
Millstone is a brilliant place to live, Ive just book for my 3rd year. The staff are kind and caring. I have love living at Millstone as it has given me independence and a bigger family.
Highly recommend Mezzino Student living, it’s furnished to a high standard and is in the heart of the student area. Has very helpful staff and it’s well run in the office.
Living at The Junxion has been a very homely experience for me, as from moving in on my first year of university I was a little nervous about living on my own so far away from my home in Liverpool; but that all change once I moved into my new room, as the buildings interior design gives off such a relaxing vibe that will allow you to study in peace. Although the staff in the building where so very comforting to speak to and will offer guidance on pretty much anything, as they are always there to help. Other than that I would highly recommend The Junxion to anyone as I am currently a second year living with my friend at The Junxion and I couldn’t feel more at home.
I moved to Mayfair Court 3 years ago and we love it here. My apartment is spacious and enlightened by large windows facing Wilmslow road. Commons, including a flourishing inner garden are well kept. Staff are friendly and always there to help, and the community is diverse. Location is very convenient. There’s a bus stop at the foot of the building, a supermarket across the street, Bodey Medical Centre behind the supermarket, and plenty of restaurants and pubs around. I'm happy to call this place our home while in Manchester.
For a very spacious space with great amenities, the price is very mucb affordable. Good views and great support staff to help out at anytime of the day.
